Our specially trained and licensed therapists will evaluate your functional needs and limitations and, under the supervision of your physician, develop an individualized treatment plan to assist you in achieving your functional goals. The Occupational Therapy department is equipped with many of the tools necessary to attain your optimal level of recovery, from exercise equipment to a fully functioning kitchen and laundry center, and a variety of assistive devices.
Orthopedic
Occupational Therapists are trained to work with patients with orthopedic injuries, such as sprains/strains, broken bones, and cumulative trauma of the upper extremities, such as carpal tunnel or tennis elbow. Common goals are to strengthen, increase range of motion, and decrease edema, pain, and hypersensitivity, thereby increasing function. In the event that a splinting device is necessary, the Occupational Therapist may fabricate a custom-made splint or choose from a variety of ready-made splints which will provide the support or protection necessary. In addition, Occupational Therapists work with individuals with joint replacements to teach compensatory methods and the use of adaptive equipment to make daily activities possible within restrictions.
Neurological
Occupational Therapists also work with individuals with neurological conditions such as: strokes, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, Guillian Barre, or spinal cord injury. The therapist will address such issues as strength, coordination, sensation, visual/perceptual skills, and problem solving, as they relate to activities of daily living, to retrain the muscles and nervous system and optimize functional independence. Teaching compensatory techniques and the use of adaptive equipment is also included, when necessary, to compensate for remaining limitations.
Staff
Our therapists are licensed Occupational Therapists or Occupational Therapy Assistants who have the skills, compassion, and understanding necessary to serve the needs of our clients. Our staff maintains regular communication with the referring physicians to update them on their patients’ progress and carry out the appropriate plan of care.
