Employee Benefits Information

Medical Plan

We provide a comprehensive major-medical health insurance product for our eligible employees. In addition, vision coverage is included in this plan. Our coverage options include individual and family.

Dental Plan

Our dental coverage includes basic, major, and orthodontia services. Coverage options are identical to the Employee Medical Plan.

Life Insurance

The Hospital pays the cost of life insurance for all full-time employees. Each employee is covered to the amount of their annual base earnings. Dependent life insurance is available to those employees covered under the group life insurance policy.

Disability Insurance

All full-time employees who have completed one year of service are eligible for long-term disability insurance. If an employee is disabled for 3 months, this benefit will provide the employee with 50% of their wages for as long as they are disabled up to retirement age of 65.

Flexible Spending Account Plan

With a flexible spending account, you have additional tax savings opportunities. This plan allows you to reimburse yourself for routine health care and dependent day care expenses with tax-free dollars. This benefit equates to a significant discount on your expenses — anywhere from 26% to 43% depending on your tax bracket.

401(A) Defined Contribution

We maintain an excellent retirement program for eligible employees. Knox Community Hospital contributes a percentage of the employee’s gross income into the money purchase pension plan. It gives you investment options, so you can select the investment strategy that makes the most sense for you and the flexibility to change how you save and invest your money daily. You become eligible to participate in the plan after one year employment if you are at least age 21.

Retirement Savings Plan

Additional retirement savings plans are available to all part-time and full-time employees. The benefit allows you to place a portion of your earnings in a special retirement savings fund. Taxable and pre-tax plans are available. You are eligible immediately upon employment.

Supplemental Programs

Knox Community Hospital provides supplemental programs to part-time and full-time employees. Enrollment can only be obtained within 30 days of the hired date, during annual open enrollment, or if a life-changing event occurs. The programs available are as follows:

  • Voluntary Life Insurance
  • Disability Insurance
  • Accident Insurance
  • Cancer Protection
  • Intensive Care Protection
  • Car/Homeowner Insurance

These benefits are payroll deducted and several are taken on a pre-tax basis.

College-Saving Programs

A tax-advantaged savings account (formerly known as an Education IRA) is designed to help you save for the educational expenses of your children or grandchildren.

Additional Benefits

Banking

An Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) is available in the Emergency Department waiting area.

Direct Deposit

Your paycheck is deposited directly into your checking and/or savings account.

Shift Differentials

Shift differentials are paid for afternoon, night, weekend, and holidays according to job classification.

Other Premium Pays

Employees meeting certain eligibility requirements may receive additional pay allowances for on-call, call-in, and certifications.

Continuing Education

Programs are available in many areas. Most offer certified CEU credit hours to meet various requirements. This benefit is available immediately upon employment.

Gift Shop

Employee discounts are available on most gift shop purchases immediately upon employment.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Rather than providing employees a specific number of vacation days, holidays, and sick days, Knox Community Hospital uses an innovative, all encompassing Paid Time Off system. This approach provides for the creation of a “PTO” account for each eligible employee into which the Hospital places accrual hours each pay period. Payment for any time off is made to you from your “PTO” account. The rate at which you accumulate time in your account is determined by your hours worked each pay period.

Long-Term Illness (LTI)

Long-term illness is to be used for a major illness that extends beyond 3 working days (or 24 hours). In the event you are hospitalized or require surgery, LTI pay will begin immediately. LTI hours will be accrued on the number of hours worked up to the maximum allowed by policy.

Tuition Assistance

We believe continuing education is important and this benefit is designed to accommodate employees who want to go back to school and obtain additional academic credentials.

Worker’s Compensation

Medical care and partial replacement of wages for on-the-job injuries is available through Worker’s Compensation insurance. This benefit is paid entirely by the Hospital and is available to you immediately upon becoming an employee.

Social Security

Contributions to Social Security are paid by both Knox Community Hospital and you.

Fitness Centers

Employee discounts are available at our own Center for Rehabilitation & Wellness for variety of exercise classes, one-on-one personal training sessions, fitness assessments, and body fat analysis.

This is a general description of the majority of benefits offered by Knox Community Hospital. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all benefits for all employees, and is subject to change. For more detailed information, please contact Human Resources at 740-393-9611.
