Fat Tuesday Triples Proceeds from Previous Year
Once again the sell out crowd raised the roof at The Parkside Restaurant and Tavern celebrating Fat Tuesday and raising funds for The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital. Nearly $25,000 was raised tripling the $8,400 from last year’s event.

The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital’s priority for 2008 is the $360,000 campaign to purchase a Digital Mammography. This is an ambitious goal for The Foundation but one we feel has the support of our community. All proceeds from Fat Tuesday will be used toward this goal.

Study Results of Digital mammograms show better detection of hard-to-detect breast cancers
The results of a two-year study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, propose that digital mammograms yield more accurate detections of breast cancer than any other form of imagery available.

The study that followed screenings made by over 43,000 women across North American and Canada found that a greater percentage of breast cancers were detected by digital screening. The study found that digital mammograms yielded 22 percent better results on cancer sensitivity of women under 50, while 16 percent and 22 percent on women with dense breasts and menopausal respectively.

Supporting the already much-advised routine screening of women from the age of 40 to cuts down breast cancer caused deaths, the study suggests that digital mammography would improve detection further.
