Available in Many Sizes
You've had a fair share of good fortune in life and now you'd like to give back to your community by making a charitable contribution. Each year, thousands of new donors come to this same conclusion, but are left wondering how to start, how much to give and their best option for giving. The first gift may be the hardest. Giving may be unfamiliar territory for you. But you know deep down you can't go wrong when you are making a gesture to help others.
Many first-time donors prefer to start with a smaller gift and then increase it annually as they become more familiar with the organization and how it has applied their gifts to accomplish good.
Among your many giving options, the most basic is an outright cash gift. It often makes sense to give a percentage of your assets rather than thinking "lump sum." Completing an outright gift is quick and easy, and you'll usually find that tax benefits, always a consideration, are clear-cut.
Other types of gifts may require more thought and, in some cases, the skills of a professional advisor. As a general rule, the larger the gift or the more complex the giving arrangements, the more likely you are to benefit from a skilled advisor.
