| The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimated that in 2009 more than 192,000 patients were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States. Locally, those diagnosed with breast cancer can receive comprehensive care, close to home, at a nationally accredited Breast Center.
The Center for Cancer Care at Knox Community Hospital has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. It is 1 of only 5 centers in Ohio to achieve this distinction. Only those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process are reviewed for the accreditation process. The standards established by the NAPBC include proficiency in areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
The Center at Knox Community Hospital offers a full range of state-of-the-art services; a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options; information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.
Lauren McDowell-Jacobs, MD, FACS, is the Breast Program Leader and was instrumental in receiving this accreditation.
