Speech Pathology and Audiology
The Speech Pathology and Audiology Department is housed at The Center for Rehab & Wellness at 1375 Yauger Road, where out-patient treatments are provided for adults and children six days a week. Specialized pediatric services include Early Intervention (ages 0–3) and the Language Learning Program for preschool age children with speech and language delays. Central Auditory Processing Disorders are diagnosed and treatment provided for school age children.
The Voice Clinic conducts comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services including laryngeal video-endostroboscopy. Evaluation of swallowing disorders using video-fluoroscopic imaging assessment is done in the Radiology Department and follow-up state-of-the-art treatment for dysphagia is provided on an in-patient and out-patient basis including Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS) and VitalStim programs.
In-patient speech therapy services include evaluation and treatment for acute stroke, swallowing disorders, degenerative neuromuscular diseases, traumatic brain injury, and speech disorders. The Audiology department provides Universal Newborn Hearing Screenings to all babies born at Knox Community Hospital. In addition to comprehensive hearing testing for all ages, the Department provides a cost-effective hearing aid dispensing program to the community.
