Palliative Care Patient Room

Palliative Care Family Waiting Area

| | What is Palliative Care?
Through a program in the Center for Cancer Care, Palliative Care is initiated at the time of diagnosis of a life-threatening illness. Each patient/family member is provided general and individual information about that patient’s particular disease, treatment modalities, and personal care. The Palliative Care Team provides physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support to the patient and caregiver by relieving suffering. Pain Management is also addressed. With physician referral, a pain management nurse will do an in-depth assessment and work with the primary physician to develop a pain management plan. This service is offered to inpatients, outpatients, and patients in extended-care facilities.
The Palliative Care Unit is housed on the 6th floor. The unit is unique in that it does not have a traditional "hospital" look. Both rooms are designed with a home-like atmosphere and there are family rooms next to each of these. |
