Lecture on New Laser Treatment That Offers Immediate
Results for Most Common Men’s Health Problem
One of the most well attended lectures at Knox Community Hospital is being offered again—Dr. James Nelson, board certified urologist will be offering a patient seminar on the availability of a breakthrough outpatient procedure for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. This informative lecture will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 6:00 pm in the Education Resource Center across the parking lot from Knox Community Hospital. Members of the community are invited to attend; a light supper will be provided.

Board certified in urology, Dr. Nelson will share information on Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate using the GreenLight laser system. This procedure is unlike any other enlarged prostate treatment because it combines the effectiveness of an invasive surgical procedure with the safety and ease of a minimally invasive treatment and is delivered in a single, low risk procedure. The GreenLight laser system has been proven safe, effective and durable in clinical studies conducted over a five-year period at many leading medical institutions.

Choosing a BPH treatment involves careful consideration to determine which treatment best suits which patient. The most commonly available treatments are drug therapy and invasive surgery which both require the patient to make significant compromises. With the GreenLight Laser system, BPH patients no longer need to compromise the effectiveness or safety of a treatment. The GreenLight laser system provides a true treatment solution, not just a step in the management of BPH.

Half of the men age 50-80 in Knox County may be suffering from symptoms caused by prostate enlargement. Enlarged prostate symptoms include: feeling that the bladder is never completely empty, even after urinating, frequent or painful urination, waking up frequently during the night to urinate, weak or interrupted urine stream, incontinence, difficulty in starting or stopping the flow of urine, a sudden feeling that you have to urinate immediately.

“BPH can have devastating effects on the quality of one’s life, ranging from sleeplessness to avoiding going out in public places for fear of having an accident,” states Dr. Nelson. “My patients have reported that they have a whole new lease on life and can once again enjoy things many of us take for granted.”

To find out more about the Green Light laser system, join Dr. Nelson on September 20th at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in the Education Resource Center in the Medical Office Building across from Knox Community Hospital. There is no charge to attend, but pre-registration is requested. A light supper will be provided to those who pre-register. Call 393-9621 to make a reservation or for more information. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about benign prostatic hyperplasia and the treatment options available.
