Emergency Department

Knox Community Hospital's Emergency Department consists of a multidisciplinary healthcare team delivering competent and compassionate treatment to a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries ranging form non-urgent to emergent. Some of the diagnoses seen and treated in the Emergency Department include, but are not limited to: trauma, myocardial infarction, cerebral vascular accidents, lacerations, fractures, kidney stones, gastrointestinal problems, burns, and psychiatric / emotional disorders.
The Emergency Department is comprised of 17 private treatment rooms providing medical and nursing care to patients of all ages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During the hours of 11:00am - 11:00pm daily, a dedicated treatment area for handling less severe illnesses and injuries is available. This shortens the time spent in the Emergency Department. Bedside registration of patients has been recently implemented, which also cuts down wait times in the Emergency Department.
Our ability to provide emergency angioplasty services means precious time, life saving time, is now available to our patients. Patients can be moved to our on-site, state of the art, Cardiac Cath Facility on a moments notice. If specialty care is required which cannot be provided at KCH, the patient is transferred to a tertiary care facility that can accommodate those needs. Those patients are stabilized in our Emergency Department prior to transport to the accepting facility.
Approximately 27,500 patients visit our Emergency Department annually and our goal is to deliver optimum care for all. We strive to provide compassion, empathy, and support for our patients and their families. Our team includes Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Unit Coordinators, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Secretaries. Although this is a diverse group, they remain "One Team United in Caring!"
Please feel free to contact the Department Director to make suggestions for improvement or to pay a compliment to the staff.
