Cooking for Health Program Offered
Cooking for Health is a collaborative effort between Knox Community Hospital and the Knox County Extension office to provide educational lectures for the community. This program will combine a cooking demonstration and meal with a lecture on a specific health topic.
The first program is a Dining with Diabetes class. It will be held on September 12, from 5-8 pm in the third floor meeting room at Knox Community Hospital. Diana Endsley, RN, diabetic educator will speak. LuAnn Duncan, Extension Educator for the OSU Extension office will do a cooking demonstration geared to diabetics and it will be served to those attending. In addition, Florence Schermer will speak on a topic of interest to diabetics.
On September 13, the Cooking for Health Program continues with information on how to reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease. The lecture will be presented by Molly Baer, RN of the Cardiac Rehab department at KCH; a cooking demonstration and light meal will be prepared by LuAnn; and Florence will speak on dietary measures to control lipid levels. This class, too, will be held from 5-8pm in the third floor meeting room at Knox Community Hospital.
There is a fee of $5 per person, per class and registration is required by September 5. To register or for more information, please call Florence Schermer, at 393-9797.
