If you have a conflict with our regular visiting hours, please contact the nursing staff for possible special arrangements.

    Number of Visitors

Patients require a restful environment. While many look forward to receiving visitors, too much excitement can be stressful. We ask that no more than two visitors be with a patient at any one time.

    Children

Children under age 12 are generally not permitted to visit patients unless specific arrangements have been made with the nurse manager or nursing supervisor on your floor. Special visiting hours are available for children each Sunday from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, and siblings of newborns are allowed in our Birthing Center with the permission of the nurse.

    Overnight Visitors

Overnight visitors are allowed when it is necessary for a relative to remain with a seriously ill patient or a child. Contact one of our nurses to make arrangements.

    Out-of-Town Visitors

For out-of-town visitors, we can provide information on local hotels and motels. The Super 8 Motel on Coshocton Road near our hospital offers a 10 percent discount to out-of-town guests visiting Knox Community Hospital patients. A number of restaurants are located very close to the hospital on Coshocton Road.

    Free Shuttle Service
As a courtesy to our patients from out of town, Knox Community Hospital is pleased to offer free shuttle transportation from the Super 8 Motel or the Holiday Inn Express. The morning of surgery, patients and/or families may call our shuttle van and request to be picked up and brought to Knox Community Hospital.

Prior to 8:00am, please call the shuttle number at (740) 504-0268. After 8:00am, arrangements for transportation may be made by calling the Building Services Department at (740) 393-9069.

    Food and Medicine

Please do not bring food or medicine to a patient without first asking a physician or nurse. Foods and medicines not given by the hospital or physician can complicate recovery.

    Courtesies

Please do not visit a patient if you have an illness of any kind. We suggest you call instead. Please respect the privacy of all patients. Everyone appreciates your courteous and considerate behavior.

    Billing Information

    Pre-Certification

Many insurance companies now require you and/or your physician to obtain pre-certification. Patients who lack pre-certification will be admitted; however, they will be held directly responsible for all medical expenses incurred during their hospitalization. If you believe your insurance requires pre-certification, please be sure the necessary contacts are made before your scheduled admission.

Our Pre-Certification Department staff members will call insurance companies for all observation patients and admitted patients to verify eligibility and benefits within 24 hours of the patients’ arrival. Our nurses are also careful to meet all insurance requirements for pre-certification as well as continued stay reviews. For pre-certification notifications or questions about pre-certification, please call 393-9626 or 393-9890.

    If You Have Healthcare Insurance

Knox Community Hospital will contact your insurance company to verify your coverage, and you will be asked to assign those benefits to Knox Community Hospital. Our Business Office will bill your insurance company directly for payment. If payment is not received, the Business Office will notify you, and you may be asked to help resolve the problem.

If You Are Covered by Medicare

While Medicare will pay for most of the costs related to your hospitalization, there may be a deductible or co-insurance amount that you are responsible to pay. If you have a secondary insurance that covers these items, please let us know when you are admitted so we can submit these claims for you after Medicare payment has been received.

    About Your Bill

Your bill will include two basic types of charges—routine daily charges for nursing care, meals and housekeeping, and medical charges for other services.

Any fees for the services of the Emergency Department physician or pathologist will be included in your bill; but for the most part, your doctors’ fees will not be included in your bill from Knox Community Hospital. Your doctor and other consulting doctors who provide services for you will send you separate bills.

    Insurance and Billing Information

Healthcare insurance can be a complex subject. If, after reviewing this information, you still have questions about your insurance coverage or financial responsibilities, please call our Business Office at 393-9630. We will be happy to help you in any way we can.

Please remember that your healthcare insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company. We will cooperate in expediting your claim; but ultimately, you are responsible for your account. You may be expected to pay the difference between your total bill and the expected insurance payment before the insurance payment is sent to us.

    Financial Arrangements

Arrangements to pay for your hospital stay should be made before, or at the time of, your admission. If you anticipate that you will have difficulty paying your bill, please contact our Business Office at 393-9630 as soon as possible. One of our financial counselors will help you choose a financial plan that will best suit your situation. If you believe you might qualify for charity assistance, please notify the Business Office immediately.
